Happy

Strange, nothing much changed
but I'm so gleeful.

I feel like I can do anything!

Why???

  1. It could be hope. The power of hope is amazing.

Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you if you knew any other languages. I think it is so cool that you are going to Japan and all. I am so shy I can just imagine speaking in English, in Japan, even though I know some Japanese. I am a perfectionist and hate making mistakes...so mortifying. My goal is to complete Japanese 104 next semester. Not that that will change my shyness. But I am getting comfortable with my accent, I am hoping it is not glaringly American. And there are a few types of people in my Japanese class, there are the whisper types who say everything in a VERY quiet voice, there are the people who think they are saying something fluently but they are just talking fast and with a questionable accent, and of course you have the smart people that are good at Japanese but they have heavy American accents they never think to alter.

Wow, what a spiel. I know I should rant elsewhere. Blah blah blah. Oh and I deleted my last comment because I saw a spelling mistake...what did I tell you about perfectionism. I am just slightly obsessed.

  2. You don't have to worry about your american accent~! Japanese will understand you...I've heard that Japanese are really understading toward foreigners that speak Japanese.
    Polite people, Japanese are...
And anyway, what's wrong with an American speaking in American accent??
It won't matter as long as people can understand what you speak~!

I can speak Korean, English and little bit of Chinese...and I can READ Japanese, as you know...Haha!!

  3. I feel a little better, thanks~

I think it cool that you know a lot of languages and are good at them. I took Spanish for four years and now I forget a lot of what I learned. I watch Spanish soaps occasionally and I am happy when I know what is going on. My Japanese is getting better. Someone told me (My Spanish teacher maybe) that once you start dreaming in another language you know you are fluent in it. I do recall someone saying some simple phrases in Japanese in my dreams, but that was as far as it went.

I'd like to think I am picking up some Korean from all the Kdramas I watch. I now have the ability to know when English subtitles aren't correct or are leaving something out. A fact which I am proud of.

I tried to take a Chinese class, but I had no real interest. I do pick up some things from the few Taiwanese and Chinese dramas I watch. And I remember a few things from the class...barely.

Considering my mixed heritage I wish I had a desire to learn French or Italian. But I don't.

I can do a good Filipino accent. Haha...I am sure my sister was just flattering me.

Oh, there are four Korean students in my Japanese class and they have the cutest accents when they speak in Japanese. One of my classmates thought they were Chinese and said "Ni Hao" to them. It was embarrassing...and funny.

  4. You can really speak lots of language...English, Japanese, Filipino, Spanish and Korean...!Wow... you are a real multilingual...(ㅇㅁㅇ)b...
I've heard that such thing happens alot... Many people still don't know much about Korea...or they can't distinguish Korea between Chinese and Korean...
I've heard that some even believe that Korea is a subordinated part of the China....
In fact, Korea used to have independent history of its own for 500 years - that's about the same length as China and Japan history...ㅠㅠ

  5. By the way, I really find that philipino accent cheerful...When I lived in Singapore, I stayed in a flowershop(it was a house and flowershop was on the first floor of it). There was two employees from Philippines. I think they had some licence as flowerist and they're there to help flower packing. But they looked after me and other children as well. They were really nice. I remember calling them aunt Lucy and aunt Dean...It was really fun chatting about the UK and Korean pop stars! I remember their rhythmical philipino accent vividly...I think aunt Dean is still living in that flowershop. I really miss all the people in that house!!ㅠㅠ

  6. I wish I could call myself multilingual, but I am not really fluent in any of those languages except English.

You've been to Singapore? Wow, I have been outside the country only once. I went to Japan in February of 2007. We stayed in Shinagawa for most of the trip and Hakone for a night. Actually I haven't really been anywhere outside my state besides Florida. Lucky.

  7. I understand... you're american...Everything is IN america...It's such a big country...I guess many Americans will be satisfied just living in State...there's less chance for them to get board...
    Am i getting it right??haha~
I've been to many Asian country but I've never been outside Asia....Although I've been to Australia... There are so many Asians in Australia...and it was almost like another part of Asia...
If you live in Singapore, there'll be a lot of chance for you to go to other Asian country...like, Malaysia and Indonesia...Singapore is a really small country and its just one-hour away from Malaysia and Indonesia..o_oa
I want to go to States someday. It has been really difficult for Korean to get the USA visa.ㅠㅠI hope things will get better under the new Obama administration.

  8. It's not that I don't want to go to other countries, it is just that the chance to do so never presented itself. And I never really thought that everything was available just because I lived in America, maybe I just take it for granted. I am definitely not satisfied with staying in Rhode Island. I do have lots of good memories here, but I am beginning to feel trapped.

How long did you stay in each country? I only had the pleasure of staying a week in Japan.

  9. Oh...when I was in Singapore, I also felt like being tapped... Even though everyone was really nice in Singapore.... Singapore was just toooooo peaceful. Nothing happens there....
but....now, I'm living a "Dynamic life" in Korea...There's harsh competition everywhere, with high tention and fear of falling behind...
Now,I realize how lucky I was...I really miss my young days in Singapore...I've been there for only four years. But...compared to Korea...Singapore is a heaven..
